At the invitation of Sri Lanka-China Friendship Association, Brunei-China Friendship Association and National Strategy Institute of ROK, Mr. Zhang Baowen, Vice-Chairman of NPC Standing Committee, Chairman of the Central Committee of China Democratic League and CAFIU Vice-President, headed a CAFIU delegation to the three countries from October 17 to 26. CAFIU Vice-President Ai Ping accompanied the delegation.
During his meeting with President Sirisena and Speaker Jayasuriya of Sri Lanka, Speaker Rahman of Brunei and Vice Speaker Jung Gab-yun of ROK, Mr. Zhang Baowen said that China stands ready to strengthen the traditional friendship and step up cooperation across the board. The leaders of the three countries spoke highly of the development in bilateral relations.
In Sri Lanka, CAFIU and Sri Lanka-China Friendship Association jointly held the 2015 “Understanding and Cooperation” Dialogue, which consists of “Human development achieved through the 21st Century Maritime Silk Route project” Young Students Speech Contest and Seminar on People-to-People Exchanges between China and Sri Lanka. Nearly 600 students across Sri Lanka took part in the speech contest. Mr. Zhang Baowen attended the Prize Giving Ceremony of the final round and awarded the certificates and gifts to the First Place winners of Sinhalese group. Speaker Jayasuria also attended the ceremony. In the Seminar on People-to-People Exchanges between China and Sri Lanka, Mr. Zhang Baowen had an in-depth exchange of views with delegates from more than ten non-governmental organizations in Sri Lanka on stepping up China-Sri Lanka people-to-people exchanges, encouraging these organizations to play unique roles in this regard.
In Brunei, the delegation had discussions with Brunei-China Friendship Association and Borneo Bulletin, and visited residents in Kampong Ayer, in an effort to promote friendship between the two peoples. In ROK, the delegation had in-depth exchanges of views with National Strategy Institute, Korean JoongAng Daily and officials of Jeollabuk-do on further developing people-to-people exchanges and regional cooperation.
