On May 17, Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) China Office Chief Representative Nakazato Taiji and Deputy Chief Representative Zhou Yan gave presentations in CAFIU. Deputy Secretary-General Liu Kaiyang presided over the presentations. Secretary-General Ni Jian made a summing-up speech afterwards. CAFIU staff members attended the activity.
Established as an Incorporated Administrative Agency under the Act of the Incorporated Administrative Agency, JICA aims to contribute to the promotion of international cooperation as well as the sound development of Japanese and global economy by supporting the socioeconomic development, recovery or economic stability of developing countries and regions. JICA is an agency that coordinates official development assistance (ODA) for the government of Japan. In 2003, JICA's predecessor, the (Japan) International Cooperation Agency (also known as “JICA”) formed in 1974, merged with the Japan Bank for International Cooperation and thus the new JICA was established. For more than 40 years since its establishment, JICA has carried out all forms of international cooperation in more than 150 countries and regions including China. As one of the largest bilateral assistance organizations in the world, JICA provides bilateral aid in the form of Technical Cooperation, Japanese ODA Loans and Grant Aid.
Chief Representative Nakazato Taiji and Deputy Chief Representative Zhou Yan made detailed presentations on JICA’s organization and partners, the necessity for international cooperation, the relationship between ODA of the Japanese Government and JICA, JICA’s assistance system and procedure, its current work and vision, mission and strategy as well as its major assistance activities in different regions, and answered questions raised by the audience.
The Chinese participants said that through this discussion, they had a better understanding about JICA’s international activities.
