Japanese LDP Delegation Visits China


At the invitation of CAFIU, a four-member Japanese Liberal Democratic Party delegation headed by member of the House of Representatives Taira Masaaki visited Beijing from December 19 to 21. In Beijing, the delegation was met by Ji Bingxuan, Deputy Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress and Vice-president of CAFIU, and Wang Yajun, Counselor of CAFIU and Assistant Minister of the International Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China. Secretary-General Ni Jian hosted a discussion with the delegation. During the meeting, Vice-president Ji Bingxuan said that the friendly exchanges between China and Japan dated back to over 2,000 years ago and the two countries jointly shaped the brilliant Asian civilization. The direction and goal of China-Japan friendship should remain unchanged and the banner should not be cast away. Generations of friendship would benefit not only the two peoples, but also the whole region and the rest of the world. Taira Masaaki said that many senior LDP politicians are devoted to promoting the development of Japan-China relations. Now the LDP has entered into a leadership transition phase, the younger generation of Japanese politicians must inherit their forefathers’ spirit to steadily promote the development of bilateral ties. Wang Yajun said during the meeting that the year 2017 marks the 45th anniversary of the normalization of Japan-China diplomatic ties, while 2018 marks the 40th anniversary of the signing of Treaty of Peace and Friendship between China and Japan. It is hoped that Japan and China can meet each other halfway to bring bilateral ties back onto the normal track as soon as possible. Taira Masaaki said that China’s development contributes a lot to the world. There is huge potential for cooperation between the two nations, in particular, in environmental protection area, where Japan has advanced technologies and expertise. More cooperation can be conducted in future to promote mutual trust and understanding. The guests also exchanged ideas with Xin Qi, Vice-president of China Association for International Friendly Contact, Wan Xuejun, Director-General of International Department of the Communist Youth League, and Hong Guimei, Deputy Director-General of China Youth Center for International Exchanges. Gao Hong, Director of Institute of Japanese Studies, CASS and Rong Ying, Vice-president of China Institute of International Studies exchanged views in an in-depth manner with the delegation on China-Japan relations, Japan-US relations, Japan-Russia relations and TPP.
