Delegation of Japanese Young Parliamentarians Visits China

At the invitation of the Chinese Association for International Understanding (CAFIU), a delegation of young members of Japan’s Diet headed by Taira Masaaki, member of House of Representatives visited Beijing from December 5 to 9.
 
Chinese Vice-President Li Yuanchao met the delegation on December 7. “We hope young Japanese politicians can proceed from a strategic and long-term perspective to contribute to improving China-Japan relations” Li told them. He said that long-term healthy and stable development of bilateral ties serves the fundamental interests of people of the two countries, calling for furthering bilateral relations based on the four political documents and four-point consensus reached between the two sides and in the spirit of taking history as a mirror and looking into the future. Former Vice-Minister of IDCPC as well as Vice-President of CAFIU Mr. Ai Ping, CAFIU Secretary-General Mr. Ni Jian and Deputy Secretary-General Mr. Liu Kaiyang attended the meeting.
 
The delegation attended Seminar on Promoting China-Japan Understanding and Cooperation organized by CAFIU. CAFIU Advisor and Assistant Minister of IDCPC Mr. Li Jun delivered a keynote speech. Experts from Development Research Center of the State Council, China Institutes of Contemporary International Relations and Institute of Japanese Studies of CASS as well as China Institute of International Studies and Chinese Academy of International Trade and Economic Cooperation of MOFCOM participated in the Seminar. The two sides conducted in-depth discussions centering on strengthening political trust and economic and trade cooperation.
 
Vice-Chairman Li Shihong of China National Tourism Administration met the delegation. Both sides agreed to strengthen cooperation in tourism. The delegation also had in-depth discussions with Department of International Finance Cooperation of Ministry of Finance as well as Beijing Chaoyang District People’s Congress and China Youth Center for International Exchange. It also visited Beijing Xinfadi Agricultural Products Company, Ltd and Beijing Kewpie Corporation.
 
According to the delegation, the visit has enhanced mutual understanding of both sides and helped to deepen the Japanese parliamentarians’ comprehensive understanding of China’s political and economic situation. The delegation members pledged to continue to play an active part in promoting the steady and healthy development of China-Japan relations.
