At the invitation of East Timor Alumni Association of Students Studying in China, Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) and Initiatives of Change-Korea, Vice President Liu Hongcai headed a 6-member CAFIU delegation to the above three countries from March 21 to 30.
In Timor Leste, the delegation met with National Security Advisor and former President Jose Ramos-Horta, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Adaljuza Magno, Deputy Secretary-General of FRETILIN Jose Maria Dos Reis, and CNRT Secretary-General Francisco Kalbuadi Lay. The delegation also had roundtable discussions with East Timor Alumni Association of Students Studying in China and the NGO “Mirror of the People”, exchanging views on people-to-people exchanges between the two countries, and the development of NGOs in Timor Leste.
In Indonesia, the delegation met with PDIP President of Human Development and Cultural Affairs Andreas Hugo Pareira, Golkar Secretary-General Lodewijk Freidrich Paulus, PDIP Jogyakarta Commission Chairman, and CSIS co-founder Jusuf Wanandi. The delegation also attended a roundtable discussion with major think tanks and NGOs hosted by CSIS, and had a discussion with NGOs including Indonesian Co-action, exchanging views on China-Indonesian relations, people-to-people exchanges, and the development of Indonesian NGOs.
In the ROK, the delegation met with Deputy Speaker of National Assembly Park Joo-sun and National Security Chief Chung Eui-yong, exchanged ideas with Chairman of Initiatives of Change-Korea Kwang-Sun Cha and President of Korea-China Friendship Association Lee Sei-Kee, and had a roundtable discussion with The Asan Institute for Policy Studies on China-ROK relations, people-to-people exchanges and situation on the Korean Peninsula.
