At the invitation of CAFIU, a 12-member African delegation composed of NGO leaders, traditional leaders, University and media representatives from Botswana, Kenya and Tanzania headed by Puso Gaborone, Chairnan of the House of Chiefs of Botswana visited China from March 21 to 30.

 

In Beijing, Qi Xuchun Qi Xuchun, Vice-Chairman of CPPCC National Committee and CAFIU Vice-President met with the delegation. Deputy Secretary-General Liu Kaiyang held working talks with the delegation. Experts from the Institute of African Studies in China Institutes of Contemporary International Relations and International Poverty Reduction Center in China gave briefings on China’s African policy, Sino-African relations in the new century and China’s poverty reduction work. The delegation also called on China Workers’ Center for International Exchanges and visited the rural area in Daxing and the Capital Museum.

 

Apart from Beijing, the delegation also visited Zhejiang Province. Chen Yanhua, Chairperson of Zhejiang Provincial Committee of the CPPCC met with the delegation. The delegation also called on the Vice Mayor of Yiwu, respectively had discussions with leaders of Zhe Jiang Normal University and teachers and students of the Institute of African Studies, visited Yiwu International Trade Mart and Suoyuan, village for intercultural exchange and tourism.
